As we attend rock swaps in the Keweenaw, fewer and fewer Datolites of any color are being found, or sold. White is the predominant color, and color like this is almost unknown any more.

This stone was found long ago, the waste piles that came out of this mine is now gone, sold off for road gravel.

Orange or Red? Vermillion is the breathtaking color for this Datolite from the Knowlton or Caledonia Copper Mines, and it was known for this unusual red. Hematite in just the right mix with copper and other minerals causes this rich color.
