PRODUCTION DETAILS
An Oval-shaped Petoskey Stone Cabochon, with perfect pattern, of approximately 30 mm X 23 mm is cut for the turtle shell. The shell is firmly fastened to a very thin wafer of green jade. Polished Isle Royale Greenstones in the shape of the turtle's appendages are added to create this remarkable pendant. Each individual appendage stone is very valuable, larger than most rings we see for sale.
The procedure to make these turtle pendants is costly and time consuming. These are challenging pendants, taking several hours over several months. The Greenstones used are gem grade, and most come from old collection harvested from Isle Royal, decades ago. Production of these turtles will be limited, due to the difficulty in matching colors, patterns, and sizes of rare Greenstones. Many hundreds of polished Greenstones are sorted in order to manufacture a dozen turtles.
Michigan's State Gem Greenstones are one of the rarest gemstones on Earth, found only on Isle Royale or Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. Larger high quality, chatoyant, Greenstones, are ultra rare. These turtles are remarkable in every respect.
The metal is Argentium Sterling and the bail is hidden behind the Turtle's head. The pendant is not gender specific, and could be worn with anything. Test modeling has resulted in complements galore.

MICHIGAN STATE STONE
The Petoskey stone (Devonian calcified Hexagonaria Coral) is the state stone of Michigan, with a characteristic pattern being a hexagonal shape. The stone is a fossil of an ancient coral. The stone quality is based on clarity of pattern and coloration and detail. This stone is a perfect combination of these three characteristics.
MICHIGAN STATE GEM
The Michigan State Gem is commonly called Greenstone or Isle Royale Greenstone. Chlorastrolite is the mineral name, a variety of pumpellyite. Chlorastrolite is found chiefly as small rounded pebbles on the beaches of Isle Royale in Lake Superior and also throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula. Greenstone is associated with the native copper deposits. These Greenstones come from Isle Royale. Our stones were collected there many years ago before collecting was prohibited.
