Firebrick is an historic material from Michigan's Copper Country. When they were smelting the copper, fumes embedded into the bricks of the ovens, and today we have the remnants. The little white spots are quartz which was harder, and impervious to the fumes, unlike the surrounding brick material. This stone is a piece of a leftover oven.
