Canary Yellow Datolite Pendant

Pda2502

New

This little beauty sings like a Canary! From Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, Datolite is rare, highly coveted, and even more rarely seen in bright yellow. The light outer color suggests that it was a beach rock from the very tip of the Keweenaw. This is an area where divers used to hunt yellow Datolite, but water has been too murky in recent years for successful diving.  Very rare color--buy now!

Like a Canary bird with wings of a different color, this stone has an oval of very rich golden yellow, surrounded by an aura of creamy pale yellow, all wire wrapped in fancy twisted gold fill wires. This is rich looking, and wire wrapped in twisted Argentiium silver and gold fill wires, giving a stunning presence for such a small piece.  It is beautifully wire wrapped by Don Reed, like all our pendants.

If you have been to rock swaps in the Keweenaw in recent years, you will know that this color is rare indeed.

DATOLITE

Michigan's Copper Country is known for the great colors of rare Datolite. Such a unique stone, it is usually only people familiar with the Copper Country know about this natural gem treasure! In Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula, Datolite is found in fissure veins or as nuggets, and is closely associated with copper deposits. White is the most common color of Datolite. Other colors may be characteristic of different mines. Pink, red, brown, mauve, orange, green, gray, blue, yellow, even black are some of the colors found. This Keweenaw Point Datolite is distinctive in the Datolite world.

Datolite is a borosilicate mineral most commonly formed in air bubbles in basalt. Datolite may be found throughout the world, but due to the nuggets formations, size of the crystals, and wide color variations, Datolite found in the Keweenaw and on Isle Royale is considered the finest and most coveted in the world. We have hunted for Datolite many times, and it is tricky to find! This one is a top-notch stone--Superior jewelry from the Lake Superior area!
