This is some "older" stone, with great color contrasts. Much of what is being sold today has lots of grayish tones, but not this. BUMBLEBEE JASPER
This is a fascinating stone from a remote and difficult to access area of the earth. The yellow and orange coloration is caused by Sulfur that is then opalized and silicated. A softer stone, good, colorful, solid pieces of Bumblebee are becoming hard to acquire.
Bumblebee is not actually a jasper, but sulfur-rich volcanic tuft from Indonesia, harvested from volcanic vents. This is found by men climbing down into hydrothermal vents on Mount Papansayan on West Java, Indonesia. This doesn’t seem like a fun job to harvest from volcanic vents! Most of the cabs we see at the Tucson shows is no longer as colorful as the old stock from a few years ago. This is one of those older beauties with vibrant orange and yellow colors enhanced with black.
