Petoskey Stone is found in Northern Lower Michigan and was chosen as the Michigan State Stone. A hexagon-shaped fossil from the Devonian Period, this colonial coral is a plain-looking grayish beach stone, but shines up to make striking jewelry. The "eyes" of the coral make interesting patterns of dark and light, but still can be worn with any color making it a tresured versatile jewelry choice. We select the best stones looking for good patterns, and solid stones that will shine well. After grinding off the grayish outer coating and polishing with our special buffing techniques, attractive hexagon patterns emerge. Finally, our best Petoskey Stones are elegantly wire wrapped with top-quality 14/20 yellow gold, pink gold, and tarnish-resistant argentium silver wires, yielding handcrafted pendants of heirloom quality.
In addition to wire-wrapped pendants, we also offer earrings, and polished stones for home decor or rock collections. We separately offer Pink Petoskey Stones, which we occasionally find in our rock hunts. Totally natural, not dyed, both polished stones and jewelry are available.
