PETOSKEY STONE (HEXAGONARIA)

In 1965 Michigan designated the Petoskey Stone as their State Stone. Petoskey Stones are almost pure calcite fossils of a Devonian colonial coral. This fossil, as well as other Devonian fossils, can be found on beaches and in glacial till in the northern lower peninsula. Very rarely we find a pink Petoskey Stone dyed by iron during petrification. See our jewelry selections as we sometimes make pink Petoskey Stone pieces. We collect, cut, and polish our own Petoskey Stones and consider our stones the best available anywhere.
