Lake Superior Agate

Lake Superior Agates were formed when various minerals entered and filled the vacant bubbles in basalts around Lake Superior. These agates were scraped out by glaciers, or eroded out by water action, and transported often hundreds of miles. Many are reddish hues caused by the oxidation of iron with the agate. A banded red and white pattern is called a “Candy Striper”. Other varieties of “Lakers” with unusual colors, patterns, and inclusions are also found. We only use Lake Superior agates of superlative quality in our jewelry. Also see our “Snob Blog” for further information.
